Our life looks like:

Jesse being a student means hang out time happens after he's finished studying and mustn't cost very much.

Having a child means our only hang-out time happens after Niko's asleep (aka 9 pm).

We're finding a pretty good solution: 

Quick game of cards, bowl of cheap icecream, at 11 pm.

Note: sometimes the quick game of cards is substituted with youtube videos or ticket to ride, sometimes the icecream is fresh baked cookies or cheap candy, and sometimes the time is midnight or even 1 am. Ack!
