Zany Niko

Guys, 3 1/2 is both an incredibly fun and incredibly challenging age. Discipline is a real thing these days and we're sort of floundering in figuring out how to get this sweet, energetic boy to control his behavior. On the flip side, we can have so much fun with him now (legos and wrestling and telling jokes, oh my!), and his surprise hugs and kisses still make our world go round.

Oh man, that zany smile up there--it kills me!

Mmmmm, parenting. It's the best and the worst and the best, you know?

Amen about the 3 1/2 age difficulty! This developmental stage must be called "pushing boundaries."

Discipline is about consistency. If you always execute the pre-planned, meaningful punishment when you say you will (without additional warnings or pleadings), then you'll find you have to discipline much less frequently. But you have to do it regardless of the circumstances. For instance, I knew a very pretty, bright and determined little blond girl who once had to sit in the corner at the toy department at Walmart....

If on the other hand, you waver, then child has learned that sometimes they can get away with the behavior. Now the only question becomes how often, and isn't that a fun game!

3.5 is really something. It's so much fun but so very hard too. I am hoping 3.75 calms down a bit. :) I hear you about discipline! It's hard to find the strategies that work for your specific child.
