In which Nikolai is 5 months old

On Saturday our little buddy turned 5 months old.  He didn't have a doctor's appointment this month so we don't have any height or weight stats, but he seems like he's growing well and is developing some pleasing chub on his thighs.

-Rolling both ways like a FIEND

-Still not sitting up on his own, but he's close!

-Also not sleeping through the night yet....he's toyed with it a bit, but apparently he's not ready to take the leap.  Oh, how I wish he would!  My body has coped by feeding him in my sleep--I'll wake up when he cries and go into the other room with the intention of giving him his pacifier to help him get back to sleep, then wake up two hours later with him in my arms, having apparently fed him instead. I've actually had to pile things in the chair in his room where I feed him in order to force myself to wake up when I go in there!

-And that's about it!

Now some photos:

Randoms, tidbits, or what have you

I won't deceive you: this post is mostly an excuse to finally post the pictures from my camera that I've finally gotten around to uploading. So proceed only if you enjoy gratuitous baby photos intermixed with a few other random things.

Our cutie likes to roll around.

(have I mentioned lately that Nikolai is obsessed with is tongue?)

Nikolai has begun making a sad face when he's not sad. It's odd.

Grass is weirdly prickly and vaguely traumatizing.

Much like his father, Nikolai often falls asleep with his eyes cracked open.

I got Jesse Carcassonne for father's day and we managed to build a city (the brown area) that looks like a shirt:

My parents were finally able to move from the house they've been renting here in Utah to a house of their own (!!!!) and they had to downsize some of their furniture.  This is a cabinet my dad built--the blue areas used to be painted green, but I wanted to change it up, so I repainted it!  Now it is our microwave table/the provider of some much needed counter space! Hurrah!!!

The other upside to having some counter space is that now I have somewhere for Mrs. White to live!!

(Mrs. White is my Kitchen Aid)
(I got her for Christmas)
(I almost cried when I unwrapped it! It mixes like a dream!)

She's had to live in the closet until now, and I've just had to pull her out anytime I needed her to help me bake something delicious.  But now she gets a place of honor on top of the microwave, and only needs to be pulled down to the vacant counter top in order to be used!  Also, I get to look at her all the time and dream of all the wonderful things we could make together :)

Warning: this tidbit is excessively random.

Whilst making some chicken salad for a sandwich the other day, I happened to notice that the mayonnaise is very kindly commemorating my birthday by conveniently expiring on that very day!

In other news, baby hands on knees are the best.

Also, our little boy is getting very strong!

And lastly, some fun nonsense:

Nikolai has picked up this habit where when he's in a good mood, he'll wave his hand up and down and pat whatever is nearest.

Waiting of a different kind

My parents are moving from the house they've been renting to the house they're buying this week! I've been coming over to help pack and such.  We've come to a strange place though.  We've packed everything we can....but they haven't given us the keys yet! So here we are, in a couch-less living room with nothing to do, the horde of boxes downstairs growing steadily more restless....or maybe that's just me.

So since I'm just sitting here, I'll post some grainy cell phone pictures of Our Boy.

He sleepeth.

Licking the balloons from Megan's birthday.
(p.s. happy birthday megan!)

Note: We only let him lick the balloons for a little while, then we got concerned about toxins and such....

As you see, he's big into licking things these days.  He picks up stuff, and immediately either puts it in his mouth or licks it.

And let me tell you, there are few things cuter and funnier than picking up your baby and having him start to lick your arm.

Ok, back to waiting!

Combating Mondays

I am not overly fond of Mondays.  They mean the end of our happy weekend when Jesse has to go back to work and I have to decide whether I should clean the house or...not.

Nikolai decided to cope with Monday by rolling over to sleep on his tummy for the first time.

(don't worry, we checked to make sure he was ok!)

Jesse and I coped by having a picnic on his lunch break!

They recently planted a lovely garden outside his work in homage to the founder of their company, who loved to garden.

Look! How pretty!

And I think I will cope some more later by taking a nap.

Happy Monday!
